This interdisciplinary project ABC of Independent Culture focuses on archiving as a community tool for preservation of intellectual and artistic work produced by independent culture in the region. It combines research and presentation of oral history through interviews with prominent protagonists in this field with capacity building of independent organizations for creating and preserving organizational memory. Since the practices of independent organizations are not the subject of interest of official institutions such as archives and museums on the one hand and on the other are often not adequately preserved by their producers (organizations and individuals) due to their limited capacities, a significant body of knowledge and works is not available for public. Therefore, the project is concerned with research, documentation, preservation and public display of the practices accumulated in the region for over 20 years. Combining oral history with archiving, the project uses various formats from video interviews to digitalized materials published online. It also uses various methods from research and workshops to public events. This way the project will create a platform for exchange of knowledge and promotion of cultural and artistic practices that have been one of the most progressive forces of social and cultural activism in the region.
