Project Blue Talk is artistic project created by ERGstatus, the organization of contemporary theatre makers. The project will establish communication and cooperation among organizations of users of psychiatric services in the region and deal with their position in society and stigmatization.
The project will be implemented in three cities in the region of former Yugoslavia: Belgrade, Tuzla and Zagreb. The project involves 4 partner organizations (organisations of psychiatric service users), one based in each city. Representatives of other local organizations also interested in the issues will also be invited to participate.
Activities will be implemented in each city: theatre/drama/dance workshops, round tables, public performances and discussions, and presentations.
The artists collaborating in the project are from three different countries in the region (Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia); all work in the field of performing arts and have experience working with psychiatric service users.
The main tools the project will utilize –workshops to develop alternative methods of work with marginalized social groups– are commonly used. However, this project carries an important difference in its conceptual approach to the artistic process. We aim to produce a performance that the audience can experience as a professional artistic performance, enabling the audience to focus on the performance itself, rather than on the performers’ identity as marginalized people. The aim is to arouse a more subtle reflection among the audience on the way performers have exposed themselves –their intimate selves– publicly, challenging the public to step beyond their preconceptions of the performers –to accept them, understand them, make oneself/the audience aware and sensitive to the conditions under which they/the performers live their life.
